The Clinical Observation on Effects of Chitosan for High Blood Pressure-

In order to verify the influence result of Chitosan on high blood pressure, this observation adopted random group division comparison method, observe the effects of Chitosan on I and II type of high blood pressure patients, total observation was 42 patients, with Chitosan usage
was 21 patients. After 25 days of observation, consume 2g Chitosan, once a day. There was
obvious improvement in comparison of same symptom. For II type high blood pressure
patients, the effectiveness of Chitosan is 50%. The effectiveness of nitric benzene
comparison group was 75%. For I type high blood pressure patients, the change of 24 hours
dynamic state blood pressure, the before and after systolic pressure value of Chitosan
respectively is 46.3±14.2, 36.4±14.3, the diastolic pressure value respectively is 45.7±14.8, 28.5±12.2. Chitosan posses the abilities of blood pressure regulation and body function
improvement.

High blood pressure is a characteristic of artery pressure increases, it posses the change of heart, blood vessel, brain and kidney functional characteristic and parenchymal characteristic and so on treat the overall body diseases. Epidemic study research shows that the level of artery among crowd increases in line with age. Total amount of high blood pressure patients in our country is 9 million over people, the risk and mortality of heart cerebral disease is also high. Exploration on improvement quality of life for high blood pressure patients is an important topic. Chitosan posses functions of blood circulation activation health care, and so on we make an observation on the functions of Chitosan to high blood pressure.
Clinical Information
1) General Information
From October to November 1996, high blood pressure patients who choose to stay in hospital are about 42 people, divide into two groups. Chitosan group posses 21 people, age between 37 – 69 (49.4±11.5); 13 Male; Type I: 9 cases, Type II: 12 cases. Nifedipine group posses 21 people, age between 39 – 68 (53.6±10.8); 10 Male; 11 Female; Type I: 9 cases, Type II: 12 cases. Two groups also posses same health condition (P>0.05).
2) Method of Observation
1) Standard of Diagnose
1) Standard of Diagnose and time frame: adopt from the standard of national cardiovascular epidemic study and crowd preventive symposium (1979). Systolic pressure which is same or higher than 160mmHg (21.3kPa), diastolic pressure same or higher than 95mmHg (12.7kPa), after 1 of the pressures has been confirmed, the definite diagnosis can be made. The standard of Clinical Group: 1) Type I High Blood Pressure: Blood pressure reach diagnosis level of high blood pressure, clinical shows no heart, kidney complication for these patients. 2) Type II High Blood Pressure: Blood pressure reach diagnosis level of high blood pressure, patient poses one of the conditions: X Line, heart electric energy or ultrasonic check up shows that left ventricles is greatly fatty, normal artery or partially narrowed of eye ground, density of protein / blood plasma increase. 3) Type III high blood pressure: Blood pressure reaches diagnosis level of high blood pressure, patient posses one of the conditions: Apoplexy or Brain High Blood Pressure; exhaustion of left heart, eye ground bleeding or diffusing, so called nerve nipple oedema, exhaustion of kidney functioning.
2) Standard of Chinese dialectic medical: According to the release of from Republic of China Health Ministry, the scope of symptoms can be classified as: liver (dizzy, headache, quick tempered, easily get angry, mouth become dry and bitter, constipation); weakness of Ying Yang (Dizzy, headache, ear problem, heart palpitate is short, waist pain, leg weak, enuresis, insomnia, frequently dreams fear cold, leg and hands weak, tongue becomes tasteless or reddish, vein problem); Ying weak Yang strong (dizzy, headache, waist and knee become weak and pain, forgetful, vexed heat, insomnia, reddish tongue; phlegm disease (dizzy, top-heavy, chest stuffy abdominal distension, insomnia, no appetite to eat, vomit and phlegm, whitish tongue, smooth vein).
2) Standard of Selection
1) Standard of bring into: Fulfill diagnosis of high blood pressure and Standard of Chinese dialectic medical, with patients stay in hospital as observation prospects, average is Type I and II high blood pressure patients.
2) Standard of send (includes disorientation or elimination standard): 1, age below 18 or above 70, gestation or woman in the breast feed period. 2, chronic diseases on combination of liver, kidney and hematopoiesis system and psychotic. 3, Type III high blood pressure.
3) Indication
1) Chitosan Group: (Chitosan resources technical provides Japan Koyo Stub Society, original packing as Shen Yang East New Pharmaceutical Co.,Ltd. Approval No: ) Every time consume 2g and the best consume time at 8am daily, once a day, continuous for 25 days.
2) Nitric Benzene Comparison Group: (Produced by Shan Dong Shen De Zhou Medicine Factory. Approval No: 940401-2). Every time consume 10mg, three times a day.
4) Prognosticate index sign
1) The Effect of Prognosticate: 1, the influence of related symptoms (to headache, dizziness, heart palpitation, insomnia, fidgety, waist pain) 2, Measurement influence on blood pressure: Measure on same patient at fixed time, continuous measure in the position of lying at least 3 times, take the average measurement of diastolic pressure with the difference of 2 readings not exceed 4mmHg.The measurement of blood pressure in the position of standing, measure from the position of lying to standing after 1 minute of changing posture. Be measured person have to rest 15 minutes on bed before measurement takes place. During measurement, muscle relaxing, breathe naturally without holding breath. The blood pressure equipment adopts column of mercury, the sleeve belt takes place in the middle upper arm, diastolic pressure is based on distinguish of sound as measurement standard. Before treatment, measurement of blood pressure only can be made after stopped taking medicine in two weeks time so that the medicine will not affect the measurement result. The average readings of 3 times measurement will be made. After treatment, blood pressure is not measured immediately, but is measured after one week. Measurement took for 3 average readings. 24 hours dynamic blood pressure monitor has been carried out for Type I high blood pressure patients, observe blood pressure change fluctuation specific value, load value of diastolic period. 2) Safeness (includes responds) prognosticate
Normally experience item (consume before and after heart rhythm, breathe, body temperature); blood, urine, discharge conventional analyze; examine functions of heart, liver, kidney.
5, Result evaluation standard
Adopt national cardiovascular epidemic study and crowd prevention and cure symposium (1979) establishment standard
1) Blood pressure reduction effect assesses standard 1 shown: diastolic pressure reduces above 10mmHg (1.3kPa) and achieves normal scope. ii) Although diastolic pressure is not reduced to normal, the reduce rate is 20 mmHg (2.7kPa) or above. Must posses either 1 of the item. 2, Effective: The decrease rate of diastolic pressure is not reached above 10mmHg (1.3kPa), however it reaches normal scope. ii Before treatment, diastolic pressure reduces above 30mmHg (4kPa). Must posses either 1 of item. 3, Ineffective: To who can fulfill above requirements.
2) Symptom treatment evaluation standard: Main symptom includes headache, dizziness, heart problem, ear problem, insomnia, fidgety, waist pain, leg weak. 1, Effectiveness: The above symptoms distinguish.
2, Effective: The release of above symptoms. 3, Ineffective: Unchanged of the above symptoms.

As you can see in Graph 1, Chitosan may improve headache, heart rhythm and others disease check against handling, especially nitric benzene group posses head bulge pain and heart rhythm negative respond, Chitosan has obvious effects on the above diseases.
2, The influence to blood pressure
The results of Type I II analysis:
1) Type II high blood pressure patients, the change of blood pressure: 1, Chitosan Group 12 cases, effects shown 2 cases, effective 4 cases, ineffective 6 cases, efficient rate 75%.
2) The change of Type I high blood pressure dynamic blood pressure (Graph 2).
